Why Junior High at GCS?
Navigating These Curious Years in the Classroom:
The junior high years mark an amazing transition in a child’s life. The transition can be challenging, as minds and bodies grow from young children to adolescents. Our junior high program is designed to meet children where they are, and to prepare them for this time of dramatic development.
Junior high students are taught to outline, take notes and tests, write papers and complete projects. They are taught to manage their own schedules and budget their time. Their teachers are there to encourage and help them every step of the way. In short, they learn to build a foundation for success in high school.
Teachers are available to provide biblical counsel to students as they begin to make the difficult choices in life. Through teacher-sponsored class trips, students learn to communicate in new ways, and build close bonds with their teachers and classmates.
Navigating These Curious Years in Community:
A Christian education must be rooted in a firm foundation of God’s Word. At Grace, our children are given the tools they need to become men and women of godly character. They are encouraged and given opportunities to put their faith into practice every day.
Grace parents are deeply involved in everyday school life. They participate in field trips, assist in teaching art, pray as a group for the school, help with special events, and contribute as teachers, helpers, coaches, speakers, and mentors. Online progress reports, parent-teacher conferences, weekly update emails, and regular conversations keep lines of communication between parents and the school open.
Parents develop solid relationships with their like-minded peers. This high level of parental involvement builds community among school families, and creates a seamless web between what children are taught at home, and what they learn in school.
