H.S. Women's Golf

Season Wrap-Up
by Coach Libby Dixon
The Lady Cougar golf team had a very impressive season. We placed well in all of our local tournaments leading up to the district tournament at the end of March. The team took 1st place at District this year and we had Ellen Dixon, Kelsey Wheeler, and Kimberly Langford place individually in the top 10. The district tournament was held in DeSoto at Thorntree Country Club on March 28.

The team qualified for the Regional tournament by placing 1st in the district tournament. We had to travel to Midland on April 4 to play at Odessa Country Club. The conditions were extremely tough. Temperature of 50 degrees and 50 mph winds does not make for good golfing weather. The team played incredible, shooting the lowest round as a team all year. The ladies finished in 2nd place at the Regional tournament with Ellen Dixon taking 3rd place medalist honors and Kelsey Wheeler taking 9th place. Macy Calicutt and Bailey Barret just narrowly missed placing in the top ten medalist category.

The state tournament was held in Waco at Twin Rivers Golf Club on April 18-19. The ladies once again had to battle high winds, but at least this time the temperature was in the 90’s. The team ended up in 5th place overall, narrowly missing 4th place by 20 strokes. They all played well and enjoyed playing with schools from across the state. Ellen Dixon tied for 8th place individually, placing her on the All State Team. Macy Calicutt wasn’t far behind in her score. The team finished out the season in a winning way and was proud of their efforts at the state tournament. We are looking forward to another great year next year. All participating players will return again next year.
