Title: Junior High Principal

Start Date: 2012-2013 School Year
Overview: The Junior High Principal will oversee every facet of the junior high school’s operation. This will include supervision of classroom instruction; management of all junior high personnel; oversight over classroom management; mentoring and ministering to junior high families regarding the education of their children; and preserving and forwarding the culture of the junior high and of Grace Community School.

7. An openness to receive feedback on issues that will facilitate growth and achievement of students, faculty, and the school as a whole.
8. An ability to be a contributing member of a larger school-wide leadership team, and a commitment to a “learning community” approach to servant leadership.
9. A master teacher in his/her own right, with a graduate degree in education and the ability to obtain an ACSI Administrative Certificate within three years.
10. Christian school experience strongly preferred.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Personnel Management Responsibilities:
1. Recruit, interview, select, supervise, and orient new staff; make decisions relative to personnel placement, retention, discipline and dismissal.
2. Define expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public, and hold all staff accountable to those expectations.
3. Confer with staff members regarding their professional growth and leadership skills, and work jointly with them to develop and accomplish professional development goals.
4. Identify, provide, and /or encourage participation in available in-service training options to address the goals identified through the growth planning process.
5. Supervise staff effectively and comprehensively by systematically observing instruction, recording observations, and regularly conducting formative and summative evaluations.
6. Maintain accurate and timely employment records.
Classroom Management/Student Mentoring Responsibilities:
1. Work with faculty and encourage student/parental input in developing school practices that result in a Christ-centered environment in which students can grow, thrive, learn, and be discipled.
2. Develop and communicate to students, staff, and parents the school expectations concerning student conduct and cooperation in the learning process, and equipping teachers and students to meet those expectations.
3. Develop and disseminate discipline guidelines that are consistent with the Grace Philosophy of Discipline.
4. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that the failure to meet those guidelines is handled effectively, redemptively, and in a manner consistent with the Grace Philosophy of Discipline.
5. Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers as necessary to encourage, exhort and educate biblical principles of classroom management and relationships.
6. Communicate with parents regarding students’ academic progress.
7. Assist in the admissions of junior high students whose families are a good match for Grace’s mission and purpose.
8. At times, serve as a chaperone for major student activities, including special events and out-of-town trips.
9. Coordinate the orientation and training of all families and students who are new to the junior high.
Curriculum Related Responsibilities:
1. Serve as instruction leader over 6-8 grade, with oversight of curriculum development and student assessment (internal and external).
2. Serve as a resource to teachers for obtaining instructional materials.
3. Lead and supervise the curriculum and instructional development process in the junior high, providing accountability for developing vertically-aligned, biblically integrated, academically challenging curriculum.
4. Together with the junior high assistant principal, develop the master schedule for classes and teacher assignments.
5. Work with the curriculum director and other building principals to ensure continuity of curriculum, classroom management, and policies and procedures from kindergarten to 12th grade.
6. Oversee all-school ceremonies.
7. Provide accountability for teachers in reporting assignments and grades to parents, and facilitating clear communication among families and faculty.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Prepare budget requests for the junior high, for inclusion into the overall school budget, and provide oversight and management of the budget as it pertains to the junior high.
2. Communicate regularly with the Headmaster concerning student achievement,
curriculum development, professional development, staff evaluations, and the
budgetary needs for each.
3. Participate as an active member of the school leadership team, furthering the interests, culture, and mission of Grace Community School.
4. Enforce all school regulations, guidelines and policies with consistency and fairness.
5. Actively participate in and promote the development activities of the school.
6. Coordinate and maintain supervision of cafeteria, parking lot and halls before school, during lunch, during breaks and after school.
7. Provide pastoral care and support for students and families who are struggling within the school.
