The Grace Faculty
Mathematics- Junior High
B.S., University of Texas, Tyler
Steve Olson is a bit of a Renaissance Man at Grace Community School. Whether it's teaching math, coaching football, directing Student Government, chaperoning 7th grade outings, or "photo-logging" the junior high journey for his beloved students, "Mr. Olson" excels at all he does. It's possible that he's good at other things as well, but where would he find time? Mr. Olson is known for building great relationships with his students and athletes. Many students proclaim, "I love math because of Mr. Olson!" Tough but fair, he maintains a healthy balance of discipline in the classroom with humorous interludes. Students remember his meaningful devotions that encompass science, life, and the teenage experience. Students often remember him in high school and stop by his room in the mornings before their classes to visit with their junior high mentor. Perhaps Mr. Olson is such a great teacher and coach because he is still a great student. He is always looking for ways to improve his teaching and coaching, and his drive to be better rubs off on his students. As the leader of the junior high Student Government, he strikes the perfect balance between prodding to action and recognizing the limits of the students and organization. He leads them in service and exhorts them to join him in assisting others. Steve Olson has been gifted and trained by God in so many different ways, and we are thrilled that he uses all of those talents at Grace Community School. He is truly one of the Hearts Behind the Blue Ribbon Award!
