8th Girls Basketball Defeats Troup

Our 8th-grade girls had a good week. On Monday night, we hosted Troup. It was a hard-fought game that found Grace coming out on top, 41-32. Rylee Phillips led Grace with 18 points. Eva King scored 14 with Casey Goetz rounding out the scoring with 9 points.  

This past Saturday found the girls traveling to Big Sandy for a free-play tournament. Our 8th grade B-team played against Union Grove (7th). In a very physical game, we came up short, 27-21. Kyndall Roberts led the way with 8 points (including 2 three-pointers). Elizabeth Sheridan and Annabelle Davis each had 4 points along with 2 points each from Emmy Hood and Natalie Jenks. Gwyneth Sheridan also scored 1 point. Our 8th A team played 2 games on Saturday. First, we battled New Diana and came out on top 40-11. Eva King finished with 12 points followed by Rylee Phillips with 11. Casey Goetz had 7 and Hazel Finley scored 6. Emmy Hood and Jaci Whitson each had 2 in a well-played game for the Cougars. The late game found the Cougars playing the Lady Lions from Union Grove. It was a tale of two halves. The Cougars dominated the first half and the 4th quarter but went scoreless in the 3rd qtr. The 4th was an exciting back-and-forth between the two teams but Union Grove prevailed 32-28. Rylee Phillips and Eva King led the Cougars with 7 points each. Casey Goetz followed with 6. Jaci Whitson contributed 5 points and Hazel Finley rounded out the scoring with 3 points. With one game remaining this first half of this season before Christmas break, the girls will be traveling to Hawkins on Monday night and will be playing at 6:00 pm. Our 8th B team has a 4-1 record heading into the break while our 8A team sits at 6-3 with Monday’s game remaining. Way to go Lady Cougars!! Keep up the great work!!
