Cougars Push Hyde Park to the Wire in Gritty Friday Night Matchup

October 27, 2025 – The Grace Community football team put forth a valiant effort Friday night against Hyde Park, overcoming multiple challenges beyond just the Panthers themselves. Facing a long road trip and the threat of severe weather, the Cougars battled to the very end and had a chance to win it late. Ultimately, the final play didn’t go Grace’s way, and Hyde Park held on for a 28–20 victory.

The Cougar offense was fueled by the inspired performance of sophomore Brandon Alexander, who rushed 23 times for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior quarterback Cole Stanley distributed the ball effectively through the air and added 88 rushing yards on 16 carries. Senior Justus McQuay led Grace’s receiving corps with 3 catches for 21 yards, while junior Andrew Gardner hauled in a 14-yard touchdown pass from Stanley. Seniors Elijah Hicks and Doak Porter, along with Brandon Alexander, also contributed key receptions throughout the game.

On the defensive side, junior linebacker Andrew Gardner led the way once again, finishing the game with 18 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss and 3 quarterback pressures. Junior Christian Henry made his presence felt in the secondary with 2 pass deflections, helping to limit the Panthers’ passing attack, while junior Aaron Vidrine added 9 tackles to the defensive effort.

Grace returns home this week for a pivotal district showdown against Arlington Grace Prep on Friday night. The game also marks Homecoming, promising an exciting evening of football, school spirit, and family fun. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. – Come out and cheer on the Cougars as they continue their season with heart and determination!
