Middle School Boys Soccer Opens New Year with Back-to-Back Wins

January 12, 2025 – The Cougar boys soccer club took to the field twice last week after a long break for Christmas. The team was excited to keep up the momentum they had built going into the winter semester. In spite of it being a new year, the results proved the same: two big wins against local competition.
On Tuesday, 7th grader Romeo Duran had a breakout performance on the offensive side of the ball. Playing forward, he was able to finish plays and found the net three times. His speed was on full display leaving host Gorman reeling on their heels. The defense was grounded and stout, led by Ben Castle at centerback and Jackson Bonneville as keeper. Jackson has been phenomenal at goal; in this young season, he has had too many saves to keep track of. Coach Reid Tamplin did make a few adjustments in the second half that really opened up the scoring, resulting in a 7-1 victory.
On Thursday, new faces continued to shine as the Cougars played host to the Heat. Maverick Tschirhart had a strong kick from outside the box that found nothing but net, while Isaac Jenks and Lincoln Shutt continued to shore up the middle of the field. Levi Leandro and Jace France shared the title of “coaches choice award” for the game due to their toughness and tenacity on the defensive front. Caleb Keel and Carson Henry are proving worthy contributors at forward, each advancing the ball and applying pressure on defenders, helping secure a 3-1 victory.
The team still has work to do, as the meat of their schedule looms. The month of January will be a busy one indeed, however this band of brothers is up to the task wearing pride on their shoulders and displaying Christ in their hearts.
