Lady Cougars Middle School Basketball Teams Shine After Christmas Break

January 12, 2025 – The Grace Community School 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams returned from the Christmas break with a busy week of action, showing strong performances on both ends of the court.
8th Grade Lady Cougars
The 8th grade team opened the week with a home matchup against Tyler Heat. After a close first half, the Cougars pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Heat 16–4 on their way to a 34–25 victory. Nora Myrick and Claire Weimer led the offense with 10 points each.
On Thursday, the team traveled to Arp and dominated early with an 18–4 second quarter. Nya Robinson paced the team with 12 points, while Myrick, Kaizlyen Kincade, and Weimer each added 6 points in a 40–21 win.
The week concluded with a tournament in Lindale. The Cougars faced a tough Lindale team in their first game, falling 35–21 despite strong efforts from Kincade (8 points) and Pippa Burton (7 points). Grace bounced back in the second game, defeating Canton 30–18, with Burton leading the way with 11 points, followed by Kincade and Robinson with 7 and 5 points, respectively.
The 8th grade Lady Cougars will travel to Brook Hill on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. game, play All Saints on Thursday at 5:00 p.m., and compete in the Palestine tournament on Saturday.
7th Grade Lady Cougars
The 7th grade team also returned from the holiday break with an impressive week. The Cougars hosted Tyler Heat on Monday and dominated from start to finish, winning 38–4. Kathrine Proctor and Hannah Jenks led the scoring with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Elizabeth Russell, Ellie Gillen, and Rylee Hamer contributed as well.
On Thursday, the team traveled to Arp and secured a 39–4 victory with a strong defensive effort. Proctor led the scoring with 10 points, followed by Gillen with 8 and Jenks with 6, while Claire Foreman, Stella Ramirez, Rylee Hamer, Emma Hird, and Summer Schultz also contributed to the balanced attack.
The week concluded with the Lindale 7B Tournament. Grace defeated Lindale 34–5 in their opening game, led by Proctor’s 16 points. The team advanced to the championship game against Canton, winning 32–17. Ellie Gillen and Proctor each scored 8 points, with additional contributions from Stella Ramirez (6), Hannah Jenks (4), Rylee Hamer (4), and Emma Hird (2). With the win, the 7th grade Lady Cougars improved to 14–0 on the season.
This week, the 7th grade team will travel to Brook Hill on Monday at 6:30 p.m., play All Saints on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., and compete in the Palestine Tournament on Saturday, with their first game at 8:30 a.m.
