Lady Cougars Roll Past Hyde Park in District Road Win

January 23, 2025 – The Grace varsity girls soccer team traveled to Austin last week for a district matchup against Hyde Park, seeking to avenge last season’s scoreless draw that Grace won on penalty kicks. With the threat of winter weather looming, the match was moved to an earlier kickoff, but the Lady Cougars were ready from the start.
As in last year’s meeting, Hyde Park packed its defense and made scoring difficult early. Grace remained patient and composed, eventually breaking through. Addison Eli and Cesa Sabillon combined for three first-half goals to give the Lady Cougars a 3–0 lead at halftime. Assists in the opening half came from Ella Herrin, Sabillon and Addie Mathews.
Grace continued its offensive surge in the second half. Eli scored immediately off the opening kickoff on a pass from Bella Wallace. Kate Herod and Caroline Burkett added goals later in the half, with assists from Wallace and Sabillon.
The Lady Cougars return home this week, weather permitting, for a pair of district matches. Grace will face Bishop Dunne at 4 p.m. Wednesday and Regents at 5 p.m. Friday. Friday’s contest will also serve as Senior Night, as the program honors six seniors: Elle Durham, Addison Eli, Julia Feliciano, Maggie Gillen, Kate Herod and Cesa Sabillon.
