Cougars Earn First District Win With Late Goal at Hyde Park

January 23, 2025 – The Grace varsity boys soccer team secured its first district win of the season with a hard-fought road victory at Hyde Park.
Junior forward Logan Santini drew a foul in the penalty area with 2:30 remaining, setting up the decisive moment. Sophomore midfielder Nemo Valdez converted the penalty kick to score the game’s lone goal and seal the win for the Cougars.
Valdez was named MVP for his match-winning performance. Santini earned Unsung Hero honors for creating the scoring opportunity, while senior goalkeeper Elijah Hicks was selected as Coach’s Choice for his strong play in goal.
With the win, Grace improved to 1–3 in district play and 5–6 overall.
The Cougars return home this week for two matches. Grace will host Bishop Dunne at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, and will face Austin Regents on Friday, Jan. 30. Friday’s match will also serve as Senior Night, as the program honors four seniors: Peter Davis, Elijah Hicks, Brock Sieber and Logan Trump.
