Late Equalizer Lifts Junior High Boys in Road Draw at Brook Hill

January 23, 2025 – The Grace junior high boys soccer team traveled to Brook Hill on Thursday, January 15, to open a long weekend of competition between the two programs. Entering the match undefeated on the season, the seventh- and eighth-grade Cougars faced their toughest test to date.

The game lived up to expectations.

Midway through the second half, Isaac Jenks brought Grace level when he finished a through ball from Lincoln Shutt, outrunning multiple defenders and beating the goalkeeper one-on-one to make it 1–1.

The match settled into a back-and-forth battle, with Grace defenders Titus Bearden, Oliver Gibson and Levi Leandro anchoring the back line. When Brook Hill broke through, goalkeeper Jackson Bonneville turned away several shots to keep the Cougars in contention.

Brook Hill briefly took a 2–1 lead on a long-range shot with eight minutes remaining, but Grace continued to press. In the final moments, a Brook Hill clearance attempt resulted in a corner kick. Shutt delivered a well-placed ball into the box, and Jenks rose above the defense to head the equalizer past the goalkeeper as time expired.

The match ended in a 2–2 draw, but the Cougars left the field with momentum, kicking off an exciting weekend of competition between the two cross-town rivals.
