Junior High Cougar Baseball Earns Impressive Wins Over East Texas Chargers

February 23, 2026 – Grace junior high baseball turned in a pair of impressive performances Thursday night, as both the 7th and 8th grade teams earned victories over the East Texas Chargers at Grace Cougar Field.
The 7th Grade Cougars secured a 6-1 win, jumping on the board early in the bottom of the first inning. An error plated the first run, Bryson Halderman followed with a two-run single, and Layton Brown drew a walk to bring in another run and set the tone for the game.
Raylan Flanery earned the win with a dominant outing on the mound, striking out all six batters he faced over two innings while allowing no hits and no runs. Anthony Lisenby added a shutout inning in relief, giving up just one hit while striking out two.
Offensively, Bryson Morrison drove in two runs from the middle of the lineup, finishing 1-for-2 on the day. Leadoff hitter Anthony Lisenby led the team with two hits in two at-bats and added two stolen bases.
The 7th Grade Cougars will return to action Thursday at home against the Tyler Heat at 4:30 p.m.
The 8th Grade team also earned a strong 8-2 victory, highlighted by a six-run third inning that broke the game open. Miller Cooper drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run, Rylan Pierce added an RBI single, Skylar McGee walked in a run, and Jacob Webb delivered an RBI single during the surge.
Grace first got on the board in the second inning when McGee drew a walk and an error by the Chargers brought home two runs.
Cooper started on the mound, striking out four in one hitless inning. Pierce, Layton Brown, and Johnowen Guyer each contributed solid relief appearances to secure the win.
Pierce led the 8th Grade offense, going 2-for-2 at the plate, while McGee added two stolen bases.
The 8th Grade Cougars will host the Tyler Heat Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
