How Does Variable Tuition Work at Grace Community School?
If a family is concerned about their ability to afford the highest tuition rate at Grace, they are welcome to apply for Variable Tuition. Available to current and new families of students in junior kindergarten through grade 12, Variable Tuition considers income, assets, family size, and any unusual expenses or unique financial circumstances.
Applications are submitted directly to FACTS, a third-party agency. FACTS evaluates your application and makes a recommendation to Grace Community School’s Variable Tuition team. Your family’s personal financial information will be kept private and is never viewed by Grace employees. FACTS simply recommends a tuition pricing formula to the school. Variable Tuition is available to any qualifying family on a first-come, first-served basis, governed by the resources the school has available. That said, GCS works with as many families as possible to make the dream of a GCS education a reality.
Grace Community School’s Variable Tuition program is separate from the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program. Families may explore one or both options depending on their circumstances.

How Does the Texas School Choice Program (TEFA) Support Families?
The Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program is a state-supported school choice initiative that may provide eligible families with funding to apply toward private school tuition in Texas.
Approved families may receive funds that can be used for qualifying educational expenses, including tuition at participating private schools.
While TEFA operates independently from Grace’s Variable Tuition program, the funds may be used in combination.
Because TEFA is administered by the State of Texas, the following are determined by the state:
If you are considering private Christian education in Tyler, TX, and would like to explore whether Texas Education Freedom Accounts could help offset tuition costs, we encourage you to review the most current information through the official TEFA website.

Words From GCS Parents
“Deciding where to send our firstborn to school was an important decision for us, and we are so grateful that tuition assistance made Grace an option we could consider. Life changes so fast, and we know that God is not wasting a second of it. Grace University is a gift to our family, one that is truly impossible to put a dollar amount on, and we are grateful for the generosity that made the cost less of a barrier.”
-The Heller Family

Our curriculum is truly Christ-centered. Students don’t just learn about Jesus in Chapel or Bible class; His truth is woven into every subject area.
Teachers are passionate about their jobs and serve as mentors to their students, encouraging them academically and spiritually.

Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) FAQs
Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) are a state-authorized school choice funding program created by the Texas Legislature through Senate Bill 2. Starting with the 2026–27 school year, eligible Texas families can apply for TEFA funding to help cover approved education-related expenses for their children, including private school tuition, tutoring, instructional materials, and more.
To be eligible, the child must:

The amount a child may receive depends on their educational setting:
- Approved private school: ~ $10,474 per year (85 % of the average public school funding rate)
- Students with a disability (with an IEP): Up to $30,000 per year
- Homeschooled students: Up to $2,000 annually
These funds are intended to help families choose educational options beyond traditional public schools.
Once accepted into the TEFA program, families can use funds for a variety of approved education-related expenses, such as:
- Private school tuition and fees
- Textbooks and instructional materials
- Required uniforms
- Tutoring or specialized academic support
- Transportation to approved providers
- Computer hardware or software (up to 10 % of funds)
- Educational therapies not covered by other benefits
- Meals provided by private schools
Funds may not be used to pay a family member for services.
For the 2026–27 school year, the TEFA application window runs Feb. 4 through March 17, 2026. Families can apply anytime during this period. The program is not first-come, first-served.
After applications close:
- Notifications begin in early April 2026
- Initial TEFA funds will be available starting July 1, 2026, with additional disbursements later in the school year
If the number of eligible applicants exceeds available funding, awards will be allocated based on priority categories set by state law (e.g., students with disabilities and low-income families), and remaining spots may be determined by a lottery.
