Alumni Give Back
Grace’s Homecoming on September 29, 2018, marked a unique and unforgettable moment in two generations of Grace students. In conjunction with their 10-year reunion, the Class of 2008 began raising funds this past summer to create a scholarship in honor of their friend and former classmate, Justin Bynum, who tragically passed away in a car accident following his high school graduation.
Thanks to the support of over 25 generous donors, the scholarship quickly grew to over $5,000. Leading the charge in this initiative was Class of ‘08 graduate, Courtney Redwine Morey, who remarked, “This unexpected overflow of generosity is a representation of the overflow of love we have for the Bynum family.” Ms. Linda Bynum helped prayerfully sift through a plethora of senior application essays, all of which personally described how Grace has shaped and transformed their lives.
The recipients of the 2018 Justin Bynum Scholarship were seniors Carson Grace Rucker and Gabriel Craig. In her essay, Carson expressed her deep appreciation to Grace for “teaching, loving, counseling, protecting, and preparing her for the years to come.” In the same way, Gabe noted, “I know how much God is in control and how much He provides, and I have experienced that first hand in my journey at Grace.”
Our Grace family is deeply grateful for milestone moments like these that remind us of the unshakable bond we share as a community of believers and the hope we have in Jesus; while we continue to grieve the death of one of our own a decade later, we rejoice in God’s faithfulness to bring beauty from the ashes and joy through mourning!
