Big Plays and Big Win: Cougars Take Down Bulldogs in Season Opener

September 2, 2025 – The Grace football team kicked off their season with a big win Friday night at Queen City. It was a tight game for most of the night, and the Cougars had to battle the Bulldogs and humid weather, but were able to get a big road win to start off strong. The final score was 35–26.

The defense was anchored by junior Andrew Gardner and senior Cole Stanley. Gardner led the team with 11 total tackles (9 solo) and an interception, with Stanley following close behind with 9 tackles. Senior Doak Porter also had a solid performance on defense, registering 5 total tackles and an interception.

Freshman Slade Etheredge looked good under center in his high school debut, going 11-for-22 for 174 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also added 39 rushing yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Bradon Alexander began his second year strong with 23 total touches for 207 total yards and a touchdown. Senior Cole Stanley had 6 touches for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior Elijah Hicks had 1 reception for 18 yards and a touchdown, and senior Doak Porter had 1 reception for 10 yards.

The Grace Cougars will host their first home game of the season this week against First Baptist Academy of Dallas. The Saints will come to town for a special Thursday night game at Clyde-Perkins Stadium. Kickoff will be at 6:30 p.m. We hope you will come out and support our Cougar football team!
