Cougar Baseball Teams Make Strides as Season Begins

February 16, 2026 – At the varsity level, the Cougars faced tough competition against Tyler Heat and Parish Episcopal School. While Grace fell in both games, the team showed noticeable improvement as each matchup progressed. Slade Etheredge recorded his first home run of the season, and Wyatt Buchanan led the offense with three hits against strong pitching. Grace will look to rebound on Tuesday with a road game at Winona High School at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Meanwhile, the junior high Cougars made a strong statement in their season opener. The eighth-grade team rolled to a 14-1 run-rule victory over Jacksonville High School, with every player reaching base and a strong showing on both defense and pitching. Rylan Pierce led the offense with two hits. The seventh-grade team will open its season Thursday at Grace, hosting the East Texas Chargers at 4:30 p.m., with the eighth-grade squad following at 6 p.m.
Coaches across the program praised the effort and growth displayed by the athletes and are looking forward to another exciting week of Cougar baseball.
