Cougars Basketball Wins New Summerfield Tournament

The Grace Cougars tipped off their season with a 73-65 win over Buffalo. The Cougars outscored the Bisons 20-10 in the 4th quarter to secure the win. Darius Shankle, Peyton Kelly, and Kole Crawford were all in double figures and Brinton Loftis contributed two clutch 3’s to help the Cougars overcome a double figure deficit to secure the win. Next, the Cougars went a perfect 4 – 0 over the weekend to capture the championship of the New Summerfield Tournament. The teams secured victories over Arp 95-42, New Summerfield 70 – 59, Mount Enterprise 83-34, and New Summerfield 71-55 to win the tournament.  The Cougars entered the Thanksgiving break with a come from behind win over Chapel Hill in our first home game of the season. The Cougars outscored the Bulldogs 33-22 in the second half for the comeback victory. Daniel Shankle, Reed Alexander, Cade Covington, Will Bozeman, and Peyton Kelly played key roles on the defense and Kole Crawford and Wilson Smith made big plays offensively to help secure the win.  

Congratulations to Darius Shankle for being recognized as the Tyler Morning Telegraph Player of the Week. Darius averaged 23.8 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals per game the opening week of the season in helping the Cougars get off to a 6-0 start.  

The Cougars are participating in the TABO Classic with games scheduled against Whitehouse and Bishop Gorman to close out the Thanksgiving break. All our teams will return to action on Tuesday, November 29 at Lindale. The varsity will be in Dallas this weekend to participate in the Shelton Invitational. We hope that everyone will come out on Tuesday, December 6th as the Cougars host the Tyler HEAT. Game times are 5:00 for JV White, 6:00 for JV Blue, and 7:30 for varsity. We hope to see the bleachers filled with Cougar fans!
