Cougars Beat Dunne in Overtime Thriller

It was a wet and wild night at Clyde-Perkins Stadium last Friday as the Cougars hosted Bishop Dunne in a big district showdown.  The Homecoming crowd had a lot to endure, as the clouds rolled in with heavy rains and cold temperatures.  In the end, nothing could dampen the spirits of the Cougars.  They led for most of the game, but Dunne fought back and tied the game with a 2-pt conversion late in the 4th quarter.  A 25-yd TD run by JT Willliams, and a big stop by the defense, and the Cougars danced their way to their 8th win of the season.  The final score was 21-14.

It was hard rock mining for the offense.  Both the weather and the Bishop Dunne defense combined to make life tough for Grace, but the Cougars were able to make the big plays when needed.  Reed Alexander out jumped a Dunne defender for a 69-yd TD reception from Zach Davis.  Grant Turner had a 48-yd TD reception from Williams, pulling a Dunne corner with him as he reached the end zone.  Jamarion Johnson had 89 hard-fought yards, at times carrying multiple Falcons on him as he pushed further.

The defense was stellar for most of the night, bending but not breaking to the Falcon offense.  Coach Jones’ boys had many big stops, several on 4th down, including one in overtime to win the game. Both Nic Boone and Simeon Garner created havoc all night long by getting pressure in the backfield. Reed Alexander had an interception and pressured the QB on the 4th down play of overtime. Blake Harmon and Dylan Taylor helped apply the muscle, with both registering double digit tackles for the game.

The Cougars have wrapped up district play, but still have one more game left in the regular season.  They will travel to Dallas Covenant on Friday night to play the Knights in Dallas.  Kickoff will be at 7:00 pm.
