Cougars Defeat Wills Point

HS FootballThe Cougar football team picked up where they left off last week, rolling over the Wills Point Tigers last Friday 49-14.  It was a strong and steady performance from the Cougars, slowly but surely wearing down the Tigers for all four quarters.
Jamarion Johnson opened the scoring with a 34-yard TD run on the Cougars’ first possession.  After a quick 3-and-out by the defense, Grant Turner busted a big run, and JT Williams scored a 3-yard run.  After another quick stop by the defense and a 50-yard pass from Williams to Reed Alexander, the Cougars found themselves with a 21-0 lead in the 1st quarter.
At this point, the Tigers hoped to work their way back into the game, but the Cougar defense shut them down again.  A good return by Alexander and Johnson capped off a 4-play, 26-yard drive with his second touchdown of the day.  By halftime, Grace had extended the score to 35-0 on a screen pass TD to Johnson.
Any hope the Tigers had of mounting a second-half comeback was destroyed when Johnson took the kickoff back 90 yards for a TD.  Johnson finished off his stellar performance with another 33-yard TD run in the 3rd quarter.  The Tigers added a pair of 4th-quarter TDs to make the score seem more manageable.  The final score was 49-14.
Jamarion Johnson finished the day with 208 all-purpose yards and 5 TDs.  Reed Alexander had 107 yards and 1 TD.  JT Williams and Zach Davis combined at QB to go 9/9 for 135 yards and 2 TDs. On the defensive side of the ball, Nic Boone led the Cougars in tackling, and Zach Davis had an interception.
