Cougars Fall to Midland Christian in Area Playoff

The temperature dropped and the wind howled, but it was more than just the cold that cut on Friday night. The Grace football team traveled all the way to Midland Christian for their Area Championship game. The Cougars fought hard but ultimately fell short to the Mustangs. The final score was 37-7.

It was hard-rock mining for the Cougar Offense against the stingy Mustang defense. Jamarion Johnson finished the game with 111 total yards and scored the lone TD for Grace. JT Williams had 54 total yards (rushing and receiving) and passed for another 83. Other receiving yards were registered by Reed Alexander (27), Caleb Carmack (15), and Grant Turner (9).

The Defense was led by Grant Turner and Blake Harmon, who had several big plays and tackles all over the field. Nick Stewart also had several pass break-ups and tackles against a powerful Mustang offense. Reed Alexander also had an interception.

Although it wasn’t the ending that Grace had hoped for, it was a tremendous season for the Cougars. They finished the season 8-2, and finished as District Champs for the second time in school history! Coach Russell, his staff, and his players would like to thank everyone for all the love and support they have shown the team throughout the year! We can’t wait for next season!
