Cougars Punch Ticket to the Playoffs
The Cougars enjoyed another perfect week going 5-0 on the week with our JV and varsity teams. Playing some of their best basketball of the season, the Cougars swept all games against Bishop Dunne and Coram Deo. On Tuesday, the Cougars dominated Dunne after narrowly beating them earlier in the season. A balanced scoring attack and swarming defense helped the Cougars jump out to an early lead and expanded it to a 72-34 victory. Cade Covington, Kole Crawford, Daniel Shankle, and Peyton Kelly all scored in double figures. Defensive standouts were Reed Alexander, Drew Gaddis, and Wilson Smith. Also contributing to the win were Darius Shankle, Will Bozeman, Grayson Gaddis, Brinton Loftis, and Andrew Dancy. On Friday, the JV Blue and varsity teams traveled to Flower Mound and came away with big wins over Coram Deo. The JV won by a score of 40-15, while the varsity punched their ticket to the playoffs with a 51-34 victory. The Cougars overcame an early deficit with big second and third quarters to pull away late. Seniors, Darius Shankle, Kole Crawford, Cade Covington, Reed Alexander, Will Bozeman, Drew Gaddis, and Grayson Gaddis all played major roles in the win. Shankle and Crawford led the team in scoring. Wilson Smith and Peyton Kelly did an amazing job of holding the Lions star post player to 4 points. The Cougars move to 22-11 on the season and 6-4 in district. The teams are hosting King’s Academy in a non-district game with tip-offs scheduled for 5:30 for the JV and 7:00 for varsity. We return to district action on Friday traveling to Grapevine Faith for games at 4:30 and 7:30. We would like to invite everyone to our Senior Night games on Tuesday, February 7. We hope to have a full gym as we honor and celebrate the Class of 2023 and their numerous contributions to Cougars Basketball. Senior Night games are scheduled for 6:00 and 7:30. We hope to see you in the stands soon!
