Cougars Show Character and Grit in Tough Battle Against Pittsburg

September 15, 2025 – It has been said that actions reveal the true character of a person. The Grace Community School football team demonstrated toughness, honor, and integrity during Friday night’s loss to Pittsburg. In a game filled with adversity, the Cougars had every reason to give in—but they didn’t. They stood firm, competing with resilience until the final whistle. Though the scoreboard showed a 45–0 defeat, the team’s character stood tall. And while there are mistakes to correct and skills to sharpen, that foundation of grit and perseverance can serve as the bedrock of future success.
Offensive Standouts
Leading the way on offense was senior Doak Porter, who hauled in six receptions for 103 yards. Freshman quarterback Slade Etheredge showed poise under pressure, completing 20 of 26 passes for 167 yards and one interception, while also rushing for 36 yards. Senior Justus McQuay contributed 56 total yards, and senior Cole Stanley added 30 total yards.
Additional offensive contributions came from sophomore Coleman Swaim, who had two receptions for 10 yards, and sophomore Bradon Alexander, who rushed for 14 yards.
Defensive Highlights
Several key players stepped up on defense. Junior Aaron Vidrine co-led the team with eight tackles, while also recording one quarterback pressure and one pass breakup. Senior Cole Stanley matched him with eight tackles of his own. Junior Mac Gautier had a strong performance as well, recovering a fumble and recording six tackles.
Looking Ahead
The Cougars will aim to bounce back this Friday night as they travel to New Boston to take on the Lions. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
