Cougars Start 2023 On a High Note

The Cougars High School teams started the new year on a positive note winning 6 of 7 games played last week. The varsity team went 2-0 with big district wins over Bishop Dunne 67-62, on the road, and Coram Deo 63-43,in front of a packed house celebrating Lower School Night, on Friday. The Cougars were led by Daniel Shankle, Darius Shankle, and Kole Crawford with big contributions from Will Bozeman, Drew Gaddis, and Grayson Gaddis in their comeback from behind victory over Bishop Dunne. Against Coram Deo, the entire roster played a key role in the win. Kole Crawford, Daniel Shankle, and Wilson Smith all scored in double figures. Reed Alexander, Drew Gaddis, and Peyton Kelly played lock down defense. Will Bozeman, Cade Covington, Andrew Dancy, Grayson Gaddis, Brinton Loftis, and Darius Shankle all helped put constant pressure on the visiting Lions. The Cougars, who are currently 17-9 overall and 2-2 in district, will be back in action on Tuesday at Rusk and will return home on Thursday for a key district game against Grapevine Faith.

The JV Blue team was also undefeated on the week with big wins at Dunne and against Coram Deo. Led by a very talented group, who continues to grow and develop each week, the JV Blue team is now 9-7 on the season and in the running for a district championship. Our JV White team is also growing and getting better each week. Their current record is 4-5. They went 2-1 last week with wins over Dunne and Troup. The future is bright for Cougars Basketball with this talented group coming up.

We hope that all Cougar fans will come out and support the Cougars on Thursday as we host Grapevine Faith. Our JV White team will play at 4:30 in the Jr. High Gym, JV Blue will play at 4:30 in the HS Gym, and our varsity will play at 7:30.
