Cougars Win 33-28 over Midland Christian

It was an incredible night on Friday for the Grace Football team. They hosted Midland Christian in the first round of TAPPS playoffs. The Cougars were outstanding all night, fighting with the Mustangs every step of the way. And in the end, the Cougars were simply too tough and too good for Midland. The final score was 33-28. With this win, Grace notched its first win over Midland Christian and earned a spot in the second round of the playoffs.

It was an entire team effort on offense, and there were several great plays and performers. Grant Turner rushed for 150 yards, including a 40-yd game-winning TD late in the 4th quarter. Zach Davis threw for 114 yards and rushed for 45 yards and a TD. McCade Stinson came off the bench to rush fro 22 yards and 2 TD’s. Blake Harmon also had 2 rushes for 11 yards.

The receivers were also quite effective with their catches, especially on some big 3rd and 4th down plays. Aden Hecht had 5 catches for 74 yards (to go with his 30 yards rushing), Lawson Livingston had 3 catches for 26 yards, and Konnor McCoy had 2 catches for 13 yards.

The defense was also carried by a great team effort to frustrate Midland and keep their powerful offense limited. Blake Harmon led the team in tackling (7) with Dylan Taylor not far behind (5). Doak Porter, Konnor McCoy, Lawson Livingston, Turner Thomas, Casey Stover, Aden Hecht, Ayle Hecht, Austin Alexander, Seth Wilson, and Nic Boone all contributed tackles as well. Turner Thomas also had a sack and an INT deep in Mustang territory. Doak Porter, Lawson Livingston, Aden Hecht, and Blake Harmon also had pass deflections.

The Cougars will stay on the prowl this week, hungry and looking to get after their next target. Grace will play Argyle Liberty on Friday night at Prosper ISD Children’s Health Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm. We hope you will make the trip and come out to support us! Your encouragement has meant the world to us throughout the season, and we will NEED you to be loud on Friday!
