Cougars Win 39-7

On Friday, Coach Russell made his debut as the Cougars’ coach and Grace scored a 39-7 win over the Winona Wildcats at Clyde-Perkins Stadium. Quarterback JT Williams threw for two touchdowns in engineering the opening win. Williams hit on 9 of 15 passing attempts for 127 yards with TD passes to Jamarion Johnson and Reed Alexander (2).

Alexander also scored on a 37-yard run.  Grace took a 14-0 first quarter lead as Alexander hauled in a 52-yard pass from Williams with 10:23 on the clock. Blake Harmon booted the PAT. With 3:45 showing, Alexander dashed into the end zone from 37 yards. Harmon’s extra point put the Cougars up to 14-0. In the second quarter, Harmon kicked a 20-yard field goal for a 17-0 lead with 5:16 showing. With 1:40 before halftime, Williams tossed a 36-yard TD pass to Jamarion Johnson. Also, Johnson ran in for two points as the Cougars were leading 25-0.

In the third quarter, Williams threw 17 yards to Alexander for a TD. Harmon’s PAT made it 32-0 at 4:34. Zach Davis rushed for a 5-yard TD run. Harmon’s PAT made it 39-0 with 8:02 on the clock in the fourth quarter.  Winona scored with 1:40 on the clock in the fourth quarter.

Johnson led the Cougars with 91 yards rushing on 15 attempts, while Alexander had two carries for 45 yards. Grant Turner rushed seven times for 18 yards. Alexander had five catches for 75 yards. Davis had an interception and Harmon recovered a fumble.

The Cougars are slated to play at Wills Point on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
