Cougars Win TAPSAC Championship

After two weeks without playing a game due to weather cancellations, the JH Boys Soccer team came to play at the TAPSAC Tournament this last Saturday. Both coaches felt they might be a little rusty, but we were proved wrong. The training they received over the last couple of months was not forgotten as they took the field early Saturday morning in 34 degree weather to play their first game against Bishop Gorman. Grace started off a little slow, shaking off the sleep cobwebs, but eventually got down to business. Once they scored the floodgates were open. You could feel the momentum gathering as the defense did not allow Bishop Gorman in our defensive third and the midfield did a great job of distributing the ball to the offense. The beauty of this game was that 5 players scored. Goals were scored by:

Austin Chamberlain-3

Andrew Gardner-2

Logan Levers-1

Josiah King-1

Nehemiah Valdez-1

Final score 8-0

The championship game was against Brook Hill, who beat All Saints 4-2 earlier in the day. Brook Hill always tests us so we were ready for a hard fought game. The boys came out confident but humble knowing that they were playing for His honor and glory. From the beginning you could feel the excitement growing as the defense constantly beat back the Brook Hill offense, all the while our offense was very methodical, looking for openings for their shots. The entire team was aggressive to the ball and took command of the game. The goals were scored by:

Andrew Gardner-1

BJ Olusola

Final score 3-0

The entire team needs to be recognized for their play, Cullen Sieber, Deacon Flores, Cason Scates, Cayden Palacios, Chapman Courson, Dylan Small, Josiah Ortiz (Keeper), Mateo Agudelo, Lane Morris, BJ Olusola, Nehemiah Valdez, Andrew Gardner, Austin Chamberlain, Josiah (Josie) King and Logan Levels.

We wish the 8th graders good luck next year and we will be happy to see the 7th graders return.
