Grace Cross Country Sweeps Titles at Legacy Invitational

August 24, 2026 – Grace Cross Country had a strong weekend at the Tyler Legacy XC Invitational, highlighted by personal records, team victories and individual champions.

The morning began with the varsity girls 5K, where Emma Goetz defended both her title and meet record from last year. After opening with a 5:31 first mile, Goetz pulled away from the field and finished 25 seconds ahead of second place, setting a new personal and meet record with a time of 17:41.

In the varsity girls 2-mile, Casey Goetz captured the team’s second individual championship of the day with a personal-record time of 12:15, improving nearly 30 seconds on last year’s performance. She was followed by MJ Hanson in eighth, Addison Mathews in 14th, Lydia Martinez in 20th and Aragon Tanner in 25th. Those five combined to secure the girls team championship for the second consecutive year. Cora Castle, Natalie Jenks and Ambry Knorr also finished inside the top 50, continuing a strong start to the season for the girls team.

As temperatures rose through the morning, the boys team competed in the 1A-4A varsity boys 5K. Senior Ayden Serrato led the Cougars, finishing 15th overall with a personal-record time of 19:24. Freshman Isaac Jenks and sophomore Asher Wickliffe followed closely in 24th and 25th, while senior Dylan Small and sophomore Ethan Foreman rounded out the scoring five in 32nd and 39th. Gabe Vasquez and Titus Bearden also finished inside the top 50, with Aaron Sepulveda close behind. The boys team finished fifth overall, making Grace the only TAPPS school in the top five and one of just two non-public schools represented in the top 15 teams.

The Cougars will continue building this week as they head to the Whitehouse Willie Wildcat CC Classic on Saturday. Racing begins at 7 a.m. with a rolling schedule continuing through middle school competition.
