Grace Varsity Football team continues hot start to the season
The Grace Varsity Football team continued their hot start to the season with another strong performance against the Lone Oak Buffaloes last Friday at Clyde-Perkins Stadium. The game was tight early, with some strong play by the Cougar defense to keep the score close. Once the offense got rolling, the defense continued making life miserable for Lone Oak, and the Cougars were able to take down the buffalo and ride off into the sunset. The final score was 49-14.
Leading the hunt on offense for the Cougars was Grant Turner, who had 11 rushes for 92 yards and 2 TD. Blake Harmon contributed 36 yards and 2 TD’s rushing. Ryder Welch had 72 yards total (rushing and receiving), Lawson Livingston had 4 catches for 58 yards, and Aden Hecht added to 15 yards and a TD to his totals for the season. Zach Davis was 10/15 for 128 yards and a TD.
The Cougars were ruthless on defense, allowing the Panthers only 399 yards of total offense and causing 4 INT’s. Roman Knight and Aden Hecht both had INT’s returned for TD. Doak Porter had several pass break ups and an INT, and was the co-leading tackler with Blake Harmon and Jeff Torres. Lawson Livingston also had an INT of his own.
Grace will be back on the road for a final game before an off-week. The Cougars will travel to Spring Hill for a game Friday night against the Panthers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm. We hope you will make the trip and come support us Friday at Panther Stadium!
