Habermehl Finishes State Runner-Up After Dramatic Final Round

May 18, 2026 – Grace freshman Reid Habermehl earned TAPPS 5A All-State runner-up honors at the TAPPS 5A State Golf Championship held at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose last Monday and Tuesday.
Habermehl opened the tournament with a strong round of 70 (-2). He finished his first round with three consecutive birdies to move into the final pairing heading into the second day of competition.
In Round 2, Habermehl shot a 67 (-5), staying steady throughout the day and continuing to apply pressure down the stretch. After falling four strokes behind with five holes remaining, he rallied to pull within one stroke with two holes to play.
Habermehl capped his tournament with a clutch finish, draining a 20-foot birdie putt on the final hole. The eventual champion also birdied the hole, securing the state title by a single stroke.
Habermehl’s performance marked a memorable postseason run and a major accomplishment for Grace golf, as he finished as the TAPPS 5A state runner-up.
