5 Ways to Ensure Your Child Receives Individualized Attention in Kindergarten

As a parent, it’s natural to feel a combination of excitement and anxiety about your child starting kindergarten. You want them to grow academically, socially, and spiritually, but you’re also wondering:

Will my child be known and loved?
Will they receive personalized learning in kindergarten?

At Grace Community School, our teaching approach is targeted and relational so that every child is supported and set up to reach their full potential. Here are five ways we get to know your child and work to give them the best start possible:

1. Small Class Sizes Mean Big Opportunities for Connection

One of the biggest worries parents share is whether their child will get lost in the crowd. At Grace, our class sizes — capped at just 16 students — ensure that doesn’t happen. With fewer children, our teachers can offer meaningful attention to every student.

For example, our teachers notice the subtle signs of a rough morning, like a downcast look or slumped shoulders, and offer kind words, a prayer, or a moment to connect. Small class sizes also allow for more tailored instruction. With reading groups of just four or five students, teachers can identify strengths, address challenges, and provide the personalized support or enrichment your child needs.

By focusing on every child’s unique personality and academic growth, Grace creates an environment where no one is overlooked, and every student feels seen and loved.

2. Experienced Teachers Who Truly Know Your Child

You’re likely looking for teachers who are both skilled and genuinely care about your child. All of the kindergarten teachers at Grace are degreed and ceritified teachers, with a minimum of five years of teaching experience, and a passion for seeing each student flourish.

So, they don’t just teach — they nurture.

Building relationships is a priority for us. From greeting students with warm smiles each morning to personalized end-of-day farewells, teachers create an environment where children feel valued. Activities, like Special Kid Week, celebrate each student’s unique God-given qualities. Families are invited to share pictures and stories, and classmates contribute affirmations, fostering a sense of belonging and connection.

By investing time and attention into knowing each child’s personality, strengths, and challenges, our educators help students feel secure and ready to grow. This connection extends beyond the classroom, as teachers regularly communicate with parents to ensure we’re all working together to help every child succeed.

3. A Tailored Approach to Meet Individual Needs

Every child learns differently. That’s why we regularly assess, monitor, and fine-tune instruction at Grace.

Sometimes, that looks like a teacher practicing flashcards with a student while the class is waiting in line for the restroom. Sometimes, it’s noticing that a child who is advanced academically could use some more challenging reading materials or some help connecting with their peers and making friends. This individualized attention in kindergarten helps ensure your child grows at their own pace, building confidence along the way.

4. An Intentional Process to Develop Social and Emotional Skills

Starting kindergarten is a big milestone. Your child will be navigating new friendships, emotions, and challenges. But they don’t have to do that alone.

At Grace, children learn how to share, work together, and grow in “otherscenteredness” by collaborating with one another. They also practice those same skills on the playground with their trusted teacher nearby.

Weekly Bible verses also provide guidance, helping students apply God’s wisdom to real-life situations, like managing frustration or showing kindness. We work to be “agents of God’s love” in the community, too. In fact, one of our school’s favorite activities is partnering with a local radio station to create Valentine’s Day cards for people in nursing homes, which teaches empathy and the joy of serving others.

5. Faith-Based Learning That Speaks to Each Child’s Heart

As the world becomes increasingly complex, faith is more important than ever to many parents. At Grace, we believe in, “Teaching Jesus. Living Grace.” Part of how we do that is by integrating God’s Truth into every aspect of the curriculum, helping children grow not just academically but spiritually.

Each morning starts with Bible time, setting the tone for a Christ-centered day. Whether learning about God’s order in math or His creativity in art, students see how their academic subjects connect to their Creator, and they learn where they fit in God’s big story.

Teachers model Christ-like behavior and encourage students to follow Jesus’ example, too. As they grow as gracious communicators, students are taught to apologize — and ask for forgiveness — because forgiveness is at the heart of the Gospel.
