JH 8th Lady Cougars 2nd overall in Henderson Tournament

Our JH 8th Lady Cougars have had a busy week. We played 5 games in 6 days. The week started on Monday when we hosted Tyler Heat. It was a hard-fought game by both teams but Heat came away with the victory 34-26. Casey Goetz played a strong game and led the way with 14 points. Eva King followed with 10 and Riley Phillips rounded out the scoring with 2 points. On Thursday, Grace hosted Frankston. It was an unusual game. Frankston won by a score of 38-18 but they scored 21 of their points from the free throw line by shooting 45 free throws. Casey Goetz scored 9 points followed by Eva King with 3 and Riley Phillips, Avery Morrison, and Annabelle Davis each had 2 points.  
On Saturday, we traveled to Henderson to play in the Henderson JH Girls tournament. The girls finished 2nd overall with 2 wins and 1 loss on the day to the host team. In our first game, we defeated Chapel Hill MS by a score of 33-28. Riley Phillips had the hot touch finishing with 15 points (inc. 3 – 3 pointers). Eva King scored a solid 9 points; Jaci Whitson scored 5 points and Casey Goetz and Hazel Finley each had 2 points. In the semi-final, we defeated Carthage by a score of 33-27. Eva King led the way with 10 points followed by Riley Phillips and Hazel Finley with 6 points each. Casey Goetz followed with 5 points and Jaci Whitson had 4. Annabelle Davis rounded out the scoring with 2 points. In the championship game, Grace played Henderson. Though the final score of 50-19 was lop-sided, it in no way lessened how hard the girls played. Riley Phillips led the way with 9 points followed by Hazel Finley with 5 and Casey Goetz with 4. Eva King had 2 points and Gwyneth Sheridan rounded out the scoring with 1 point.  
The Lady Cougars are 8-7 on the season with a game this coming Tuesday night at Longview Christian Heritage at 5:30 pm. Go Cougars!!
