Junior High Cougars Earn Split in Busy Week of Play

January 23, 2025 – The Grace junior high boys soccer team took the field twice last week before a major ice storm brought much of the region to a halt.

On Tuesday, the Cougars hosted cross-town opponents Bishop Gorman in a physical contest that never fully settled into rhythm. Grace suffered its first loss of the season, falling 5–2 despite a determined effort.

Isaac Jenks led the offensive attack with a goal off a free kick from 15 yards out. He nearly added another moments later, striking a free kick from 30 yards that glanced off the crossbar. Maverick Tschihart contributed strong play on the wing, Romeo Duran controlled the center midfield, and Titus Bearden provided a physical presence across multiple positions. Jace France and Levi Leandro also played key roles defensively as the Cougars worked to contain Gorman’s speed.

On Thursday, Grace responded with energy and focus while hosting Christian Heritage. Despite facing an opponent that included older players, the Cougars matched the physicality from the opening whistle and delivered one of their strongest performances of the season.

Carson Henry scored twice to lead the offense, while Cayleb Keel anchored the midfield with a steady presence. Kyle Brabon played stout defense, newcomer Joshua Wright made an immediate impact, and goalkeeper Jackson Bonneville continued his reliable play in goal, turning away nearly every shot he faced.

Grace closed out the match with a 3–1 victory, capping a resilient team effort and sending the Cougars into the weather break with renewed momentum.
