Lady Cougars Advance to State

Tuesday night the Cougars defeated Fort Worth All Saints 70-27 in the area round of the playoffs at Navarro College. The Cougars held a 12-8 lead after the first quarter before out-scoring All Saints 45-10 in the second and third quarters. The Cougar defense forced 28 turnovers helping spark a great scoring night.  The Cougars best shooting night of the year was led by Brenna Hill who hit five 3pt field goals and finished with a game high 19 points. Abigail Roach had 9 points, 9 assists, and six steals. Paige Gilmore had 12 and Reece Porter had 11.  

Friday night the Cougars were back at Navarro for the regional round, beating St. Michaels 39-37. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead 17-11 at the end of the first with Paige Gilmore scoring 8 of her game high 12. The Cougars held SMHS scoreless in the second and were up by 12 at the half. St. Michaels fought back and took the lead with a few minutes left in the game. Paige Gilmore’s steal and layup put the Cougars back up by one late, St. Michaels would again retake the lead under a minute, but Abigail Roach hit two clutch free throws near the end for the lead. The Cougars got the defensive stop they needed to finish it off.  

The Cougars advance to the Final Four in Waco. They play Thursday at 4:00 at University HS against Argyle Liberty Christian.
