Lady Cougars Soccer Hosting Winter Classic
The Grace Women’s soccer teams finished off their week before Thanksgiving with several games. The week began with the Varsity Girls hosting All Saints. Grace was the heavy favorite, and All Saints came prepared to dig in and hold on – which is exactly what they did for much of the game. The scored stayed 0-0 for all of the first half and into the second. The Lady Cougars kept pouring on the pressure, taking a total of 43 shots in the game. It was finally Elle Durham who was able to find a breakthrough for the first goal. All Wallace added a second, and Paige Britt quickly added a third – and then the rout was on. The final score of the game was 8-0. Abby Metzger scored a hat trick, Elle Durham had 2 goals, and Addison Eli scored (in addition to Wallace and Britt).
The JV Girls were up next, hosting FC Dallas 08 on Tuesday night. It was a cold and drizzly night, but the weather couldn’t stop the Lady Cougars. Grace played extremely well for their opening game. They went toe-to-toe with a club team that has been playing together for years. In the end, FC Dallas proved to be a little too much for Grace, scoring a late winner to make the score 2-1. Grace Carter provided the goal for the Lady Cougars.
The Varsity girls traveled to McKinney Christian on Thursday for a final test before the Thanksgiving break. It was an intensely contested game, with hard tackles and good play coming from both teams. McKinney opened the scoring with a quick shot off a cross, and the half ended with McKinney up 1-0. The Lady Cougars continued to battle and pressure in the second half, and succeeded in tying the score. Elle Durham went up and over the goalie with a shot from Rylee Ratliff’s pass. The game continued to go back and forth, with shots at both ends, before McKinney was able to find break the deadlock and make the score 2-1. The Lady Cougars pressed for an equalizer, but McKinney was able to hit another goal on the break and effectively seal the game for the Lady Mustangs, 3-1.
The Women’s Soccer teams will be busy this week, as the JV hosts the Home School Athletic Association on Tuesday at 7:00, and both teams will play in the Winter Soccer Classic on Friday and Saturday at Grace. Good luck Lady Cougars!
