Lady Cougars Split Week, Improve to 16-9 Overall

January 19, 2025 – The Lady Cougars used stifling defense and balanced scoring to earn a decisive 53-11 victory over Brighter Horizons on Tuesday night, then fell 61-36 at Brook Hill on Friday to move to 16-9 overall and 3-1 in district play.
Against Brighter Horizons, the Cougars set the tone early, forcing turnovers and converting numerous fast-break opportunities. The defensive pressure helped the Lady Cougars jump out to a 19-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and they never looked back.
Paige Gilmore delivered a dominant all-around performance, finishing with 14 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, eight steals and four blocks. Macy Loftis led all scorers with 18 points and added six steals. Rylee Phillips scored 11 points, while Lilly Kennedy, Jaci Whitson, Caroline Fox, Eva King and Emmy Hood also scored in the win.
On Friday at Brook Hill, the Lady Cougars showed resilience early and stayed within striking distance after a strong second quarter. However, turnovers by the Cougars and hot shooting from the Guard allowed Brook Hill to pull away in the second half for the 61-36 final.
Phillips led the Cougars with a strong all-around effort, scoring 10 points while protecting the ball and playing tough defense. Gilmore continued her double-double streak with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Loftis scored seven points and handed out five assists. Whitson and Kennedy added four and three points, respectively.
The Lady Cougars have two key games remaining before the district tournament as they continue district play with a 3-1 mark.
