Lady Cougars Win Kemp Tournament

The 7th and 8th grade JH Girls Basketball teams had a busy week. The 7th grade played 4 games plus a B team game and the 8th grade played 5 games. Both teams worked hard and saw some good success this week.   

The 7th grade started with Tyler Heat on Monday and lost a close game 23-21. Eva King led the way with 6 points followed by Molly Cannon with 5 and Rylee Phillips with 4. Casey Goetz, Annabelle Davis and Emma Hood each had 2.  On Thursday, Grace travelled to Frankston and played a 7th B and 7th A game.  The 7th B game saw the Lady Cougars win 28-0. Emma Hood scored 10 points followed by Annabelle Davis with 6, Elizabeth Sheridan and Cora Castle with 4 points each and Audry Kirby and Gwyneth Sheridan with 2 points each. The 7th A game saw Grace come away with a 36-4 win.  Rylee Phillips led with 12 and Eva King had 10 points. Casey Goetz followed with 6 and Annabelle Davis had 4. Kyndall Roberts and Emma Hood each had 2. The 7th grade finished the week in the Kemp Tournament on Saturday. Their first game was against Eustace and they fought hard but fell short 29-25.  Leading the way was Rylee Phillips with 11 and Eva King with 10. Casey Goetz and Kyndall Roberts each had 2.  The second game was against host team Kemp. Again, it was a tough, physical game and the girls played hard but came up short 34-25.  Rylee Phillips led with 7 followed by Casey Goetz with 6. Emma Hood had a 3 and Eva King, Kyndall Roberts and Gwyneth Sheridan each had 2.  Shout out to Mr. Zane Cannon for helping out as Coach Holcomb was coaching the 8th grade team at same time. The 7th grade record (inc. the B team game is 4-11). The girls are improving each game and they are a blast to watch.  

The 8th grade team went 4-1 on the week to improve their record to 7-8 on the season.  They started with Tyler Heat on Monday and fell in a close game 35-28. Macy Loftis led the way with 8 points followed by Avery Blalock with 6 and Rebecca Dai with 4. Rowyn Parish, Grace Wilson, Lilly Kennedy and Eva King each had 2 and Casey Goetz finished with 1 pt. On Thursday, they also travelled to Frankston and completely dominated – winning 44-17.  Macy Loftis led with 16 points and Rebecca Dai had 10. Lilly Kennedy scored 6 and Marley Parrish contributed 4.  Rylee Phillips, Casey Goetz, Avery Blalock and Rowyn Parish each had 2. On Saturday, the girls travelled to Kemp to participate in the Kemp JH Girls Tournament and came out as TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!! WAY TO GO LADY COUGARS!!  Game 1 had Grace playing Eustace.  The girls won 35-12.  Macy Loftis led the way with 13 points followed by Lilly Kennedy and Rowyn Parish with 8, and Rebecca Dai finished with 6 points.  The girls beat Kemp in game 2 by a score of 39-19. Macy Loftis led with 19 points. Rebecca Dai had 5 points and was followed by Avery Blalock and Lilly Kennedy with 4 each and Rowyn Parish with 3. Marley Parrish and Grace Wilson each had 2.  In the championship game the girls faced off against Kemp again and came away with a solid 34-5 win. Rebecca Dai led the way with 10 points followed closely by Macy Loftis with 9. Lilly Kennedy had 6 and Avery Blalock had 5. Marley Parrish and Grace Wilson each had 2.  It is exciting to see the girls improving each game.  

The girls do not have games this week but will playing All Saints the following week.  Looking to finish the season strong!!
