Pre-Regional Meet Provides Strong Test for Grace Swimmers

January 19, 2025 – The Cougars swim team competed Friday, Jan. 16, at the Pre-Regional Swim Meet held at Wilkerson-Greines Natatorium, an important step on the road to the regional championships.

The meet featured 19 private and parochial schools from across the Metroplex and included more than 250 swimmers, creating one of the most competitive environments the Cougars have faced this season.

The Pre-Regional meet marked the first time the Cougars competed against several of the participating schools, giving swimmers a valuable preview of the level of competition expected at regionals. The team responded with focus and determination in a high-energy atmosphere both on deck and in the water.

From a coaching perspective, the meet provided an opportunity to evaluate strengths and identify areas to fine-tune during the final two weeks of preparation before regionals. Competing against fast fields offered valuable race experience as swimmers continue to improve technique, strategy and confidence.

The boys relay teams turned in standout performances, finishing second in all three relay events against a deep field. The girls relay teams also performed well, earning two third-place finishes and a fourth-place finish.

Senior swimmers led the way individually. Mollie Mathis placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, and Leo Rubio finished second in the 100 butterfly. Both swimmers recorded season-best times.

The Cougars will next compete at the Regional Championships on Friday, Jan. 30, at the Mansfield Natatorium.
