Sisterhood in Action: Cougarettes Celebrate 18 Years with New Leadership Roles

September 2, 2025 – In a historic move that marks a new chapter in its 18-year legacy, the Cougarettes Drill Team has officially introduced Social Officer leadership positions for the first time since its founding in the fall of 2007.
These newly appointed officers–led by a Social Officer President Caydence Chacon and Vice President Micah Barry–are tasked with fostering team unity, organizing social events, and promoting a Christ-centered community within the team. Their mission goes beyond spirit and celebration; they are also committed to cultivating character, connection, and spiritual growth among all Cougarettes.
One of the exciting initiatives led by the Social Officers is taking over the role of selecting the “Cougarette of the Week” – a weekly honor given to a team member who exemplifies outstanding character, leadership, positivity, and faith. The first recipient of this recognition for the 2025- 2026 football season was Freshman Josie Keith, who was honored for her consistent hard work, quiet strength, and courageous spirit leading up to the Cougarettes’ debut performance at last week’s football game.
“Josie has already set an incredible example in her determination both in practice and performances,” said Melissa Fox, Director of the Cougarettes. “We are so proud of her and our entire team this year as we continue to raise the bar.”
In addition to planning team bonding events, spirit days, and birthday celebrations, the Social Officers are also leading weekly devotionals and moments of prayer and reflection. These spiritually focused activities aim to strengthen each member’s personal faith while reinforcing the Cougarettes’ identity as not only performers, but Christian leaders on campus.
The team’s success continues to be anchored by strong leadership from Head Dance Captain Ali Matson, who plays a pivotal role in the overall management and discipline of the team as well as refining performance quality and choreography needs. Known for her outstanding dance ability, dedication, work ethic, and servant leadership, Ali leads by example as Head Dance Captain, setting a high standard for excellence both on and off the field.
As the Cougarettes enter their 18th season, the introduction of Social Officers reflects the team’s ongoing commitment to excellence—on the stage, on the field, and in their walk with Christ.
