On Tuesday, February 7th, the Grace Community girls swim team captured the third place state title for the

second year in a row at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio. The girls battled hard but were 37 points

behind Austin St. Dominic Savio at the conclusion of the last relay. Leading the girls in medal count were

Blakely Roseberry, 3rd 200 yard Individual Medley, Jennifer Montier, 2nd 100 yard Butterfly, and Ashley Taylor

with a 3rd in the 100 yard Breaststroke. The Cougar boys finished 5th overall just 3 points behind 4th place

St. Michael’s and 18 points behind 3rd place Houston Second Baptist. Leading the boys in medal count was

Michael Green, 2nd 50 yard Freestyle and 2nd in the 100 yard Breaststroke. The meet was exceptionally fast

with only hundredths of a second separating the top places in each event. Out of 22 events, there were 8 new

State Records achieved. The Cougar team success was seen as 96% of the Cougar swims were faster at

state then at Regionals. 30 teams from all over Texas were competing who had qualified at their Regional

meet. The top 3 swimmers in each event in each Region qualify for state and there are 7 call-ups to round out

the field of 16 competitors in each event.
