Varsity Football With Big Win over Spring Hill

The Grace Varsity Football team tied a nice bow on their non-district schedule last Friday night with a big win over Spring Hill. The Panthers fought hard, and the game was close until well into the 2nd half, but ultimately the Cougars had too much and eventually overwhelmed Spring Hill. The final score was 59-33.

On offense, the points came from a variety of players. Zach Davis was 10/18 for 232 yards, 3 TD’s and an Interception. Davis also added a rushing TD. Grant Turner rushed for 182 yards and 2 TD, and Blake Harmon had 3 carries for 79 yards and a TD. Receiving TD’s were scored by Aden Hecht, Konnor McCoy, and Casey Stover. All together, the Cougar offense amassed 532 yards offense and scored 7 TD’s.

Defensively, everyone had to be focused and determined to limit the Panthers powerful offense. And for 4 quarters, the Cougars were able to do just that, holding Spring Hill to just 375 yards of offense. Blake Harmon led the team in tackling and blocked a punt. Seth Wilson recovered the blocked punt and returned it inside the Spring Hill 5-yard line. Jeff Torres had an interception in the end zone which broke the back of the Panthers and helped keep them at bay.

For his performance, Blake Harmon was voted the Special Teams Player of the Week by David Smoak. Harmon was 8/8 on PAT, blocked a punt, and kicked a 45-yd FG–in addition to being the leading tackler on defense, and rushing for 79 yards and a TD on offense.

The Cougars will enjoy a much needed Friday night off this week before kicking off their District schedule next Friday. Grace will welcome Grapevine Faith to Clyde-Perkins stadium on October 6 as we celebrate Homecoming. We hope you will come out to support the Cougars and to enjoy the festivities!
