Werner Earns State Medal to Lead Cougar Tennis at State Tournament

April 20, 2026 – The Grace Cougars tennis team traveled to Waco last week to compete in the state tournament, with multiple players representing the program in both singles and doubles competition.

Fredrik Werner, the district champion in boys singles, led the way for Grace with a third-place finish, earning a bronze medal. Werner won his first two matches before falling in a hard-fought three-set semifinal match to the eventual state champion.

Leo Russo, who placed fourth at district, faced a challenging opening-round matchup and was eliminated by the eventual state champion.

In mixed doubles, sophomore Mia Lindley and freshman Easton Griffin earned a first-round victory before falling in a competitive three-set match to a team from Trinity Lubbock.

Grace coaches praised the Cougars for their effort and sportsmanship while competing at the highest level, as the team concluded its season at the state tournament.
