Grace Cross Country posts another strong showing

The Grace Cross Country team posted another strong showing this past Friday at the Mike Darby Invitational. For the second year, the girl’s team was entered in the UIL 5A-6A division 5000m race. They responded like true competitors finishing in second place in a field of eight teams. This year the girls improved in three major areas over last year’s second-place team, most notably Team Average Time of 21:16.0 (1-5 places). They were led by Emma Goetz winning individually in a course record time of 18:21.2, presently the second fastest girls 5K time in Texas State TAPPS. Lauryn Dunn, Kayla Minick, Maddie Keeling, Maggie Jenz, and Whitney Callens all followed with seasonal or personal best times. The boys followed with a strong effort. With their top two runners, Roe Gaddis and Chris Alexander out because of injury, the team didn’t merely go through the motions, with Clayton Bock stepping into the leader role, four of the six Grace harriers ran at or better than their seasonal best. Most notable was DJ Raborar’s 2-minute 20-second improvement over his time last year on this course.
